SHARLEYNE’S CASE
Director: Roelof Bosma
Production: Zembla

READ MORESharleyne was only eight years old when her life ended abruptly last summer. A neighbour found the little girl lifeless on the ground below their apartment building in Hoogeveen in the middle of the night. She was wearing pyjamas and a stuffed animal was next to her body. Sharleyne lived with her mother on the 10th floor. A visitation agreement was in place with her father. To this day it remains unclear whether the child fell, jumped or was pushed from her home. The mayor did not hesitate to mention that the family had been in the child and family services system for years. Consequently, many had questions: exactly how was child and family services involved? What was going on with the family? And how could no one manage to prevent this tragedy? Zembla investigates Sharleyne’s case.
