The Disability Insurance Act’s miracle workers’
Many employees in the Netherlands receiving benefits under the Disability Insurance Act (WAO) have been re-examined and declared fit for work by the employee insurance authority UWV doctors and must now return to the workforce. But few are succeeding. Employers are suspicious of these ‘miraculous recoveries.’ Minister de Geus (Social Affairs and Employment) is proud of the results, even though despite the many millions invested in supporting care almost none of the employees in question are working again.
